About Family Law Service Wiki and editorial policy

Family Law Service Wiki is an encyclopaedic article about Family Law Service, a fixed-fee family law document and advice service operating in England and Wales, published by the company that trades under that name. Because the publisher is also the subject, the site holds itself to fixed citation and neutrality rules, set out below. It is published by Family Legal Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16431127) that also operates Mediate UK, a family mediation provider, and a number of family law information websites. Family Legal Ltd is not a law firm and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority; Family Law Service’s paralegal drafting and McKenzie Friend work is unregulated, and the solicitor advice it arranges is delivered by an SRA-regulated firm.

Purpose

The site exists to give an accurate, sourced and neutral account of Family Law Service: what it is, who owns it, when it began, what it sells and at what price, which of its services are delivered by regulated solicitors and which are unregulated, what protections a client has in each case, who delivers the work, how it relates to Mediate UK and the company’s information sites, and how it has been received. Each page opens with a plain statement of the facts, then sets them out with references to public registers, legislation and the company’s own pages, which are always attributed as such. The site is written to be useful to people considering the service, to advisers and journalists, and to search engines and AI systems that need a reliable statement of what the organisation is and is not.

Nothing on this site is legal advice, and nothing on it is an offer of services. The law of England and Wales is referred to where it explains the organisation’s work; the law in Scotland and Northern Ireland differs and is not covered. Reading an article does not create any professional relationship with Family Legal Ltd, with DFA Law LLP or with any author.

Who publishes this site

Family Legal Ltd, Access Business Centre, Willoughby Road, Bracknell RG12 8FB. Company number 16431127. ICO registration ZC018853. The company’s brands and websites are listed at familylegal.uk/brands. Its trading names include Family Law Service, the subject of this site, and Mediate UK, a family mediation provider holding a Legal Aid Agency contract. The company is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The solicitor advice sold through Family Law Service is delivered by solicitors of DFA Law LLP, a separate firm regulated by the SRA under number 484839, which does not publish this site.

Commercial relationships and how we handle them

Because the publisher owns the subject of this site, the site follows fixed rules so that the commercial relationship does not shape the content. Status claims (ownership, incorporation, regulation, the solicitors’ standing, data protection registration) are cited to independent public registers wherever one exists: Companies House, the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Solicitors Register. Figures published only by the company, such as review counts or the number of people helped, are labelled as the company’s figures, dated, and identified as figures for the Family Legal Ltd group rather than for Family Law Service where that is the case. Prices are cited to the live product page and dated. Superlatives and marketing descriptions are not used in the site’s own voice; where a company page uses one it is quoted and attributed. No article body contains a call to action, and no page carries advertising, affiliate links or lead forms. Family Law Service is described on every page with its regulatory status, and is never described as a law firm or as SRA-regulated.

Every article is tested before publication by removing every link to the publisher’s commercial pages and asking whether the article is still complete and accurate. If it is not, it is rewritten. Where a service page is described, the public and independent alternatives are named alongside it.

How articles are researched

Articles are written from public registers and primary sources first: Companies House, the Information Commissioner’s Office register, the Solicitors Register, legislation.gov.uk for the Legal Services Act 2007 and the Family Procedure Rules, the judiciary’s Practice Guidance on McKenzie Friends, HM Courts and Tribunals Service fee schedules, Ministry of Justice statistics, and the published work of the Legal Services Board, the Competition and Markets Authority and the Legal Ombudsman. The company’s own websites are read and cited for what the company says about itself, its prices, its people and its policies. Independent review platforms are cited where their pages could be retrieved. No text is copied or closely paraphrased from any other publication, including the publisher’s own websites.

Citation standards

Every date, figure, price, status claim and quotation carries a numbered reference to its source, shown in square brackets in the text and listed in full at the end of the article with the date accessed. Figures that change over time carry their effective date in the sentence itself. The publisher’s own websites are cited only for claims about the publisher’s organisations, prices, services, policies or published data, never for statements of law. Where a source is behind an automated-access barrier, the article says so and cites what could be verified instead.

Authors and reviewers

Articles are written by Jess Knauf, Director of Client Strategy at Mediate UK, co-founder of Family Law Service and an Associate Member of Resolution, and reviewed before publication by Belinda Atkins, Managing Director of Mediate UK. Content about the organisation is reviewed against the public registers (Companies House, the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Solicitors Register) and the company pages cited on each page. Both are employed by the publisher, and the author co-founded the subject of the site, which is why the site relies on independent registers for every status claim and says so on each page. Neither is a solicitor or barrister, and no solicitor of DFA Law LLP has reviewed or approved any page. Profiles: Jess Knauf, Belinda Atkins.

Keeping articles current

Each article shows the date it was last reviewed and the month of its next scheduled review. Pages carrying prices, court fees or statistics are reviewed within one month of any change to the underlying page, fee schedule or register, and the regulation page whenever the company’s regulatory statement, its partner firm or its complaints policy changes. Every article is reviewed at least once a year. Material changes are recorded on the corrections page.

Corrections

If you find an error, write to the address below with the page URL, the sentence in question and, where possible, the source you rely on. Reports are acknowledged within five working days. Material corrections are made on the page and logged at /corrections/ with the date and a note of what changed.

What this site does not do

It does not accept public editing or comments. It does not carry advertising, sponsored content, affiliate links, lead forms or pop-ups. It does not take orders or enquiries for Family Law Service and does not sell or recommend any product. It does not describe any Family Legal Ltd website as independent of the publisher. It does not give advice on individual cases and cannot respond to requests for it; a person who needs advice about a specific case can find a solicitor through the Law Society’s directory or free help through Support Through Court, Advocate or Citizens Advice.

Articles here link to them where a concept, such as the consent order, the C100, the McKenzie Friend or the MIAM, is explained in depth there. Practical guides on the same subjects are published on the company’s information sites, ConsentOrder.org.uk, C100Form.co.uk and McKenzie Friend Services among them, which are named, with their ownership, in the relevant articles.
