Companies House records Family Legal Ltd as an active private limited company incorporated on 6 May 2025 with no previous names. Its first accounts, made up to 31 May 2026, are due by 6 February 2027, and its next confirmation statement is due by 19 May 2027.[1] The registered office, Access Business Centre, Willoughby Road, Bracknell RG12 8FB, is the address shown on the Family Law Service site and in its privacy policy, together with the telephone number 0333 339 5505.[1][5][6]

The ICO register entry ZC018853 names Family Legal Ltd as a data controller at the same address, registered on 20 October 2025 with an expiry date of 19 October 2026, and lists four other names under which it operates.[2] The company gives its VAT registration number as GB 504 2090 38.[3] The Family Law Service privacy policy, dated 20 January 2026, names “Family Legal Ltd (trading as Family Law Service)” as the data controller under the same ICO number.[6]

McKenzie Friend Services (mckenziefriendservices.com) is not on the brands page consulted but states that it is “run by the same small team that runs Family Law Service”.[11] Several of the information sites describe themselves as “independent” of HM Courts and Tribunals Service or of government; this wiki does not describe any of them as independent of the company, and where an article here links to one it says so.[9][10]

Regulatory status

Family Legal Ltd is not a law firm and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.[3][12] Its group site states: “Where work is carried out by a solicitor or a barrister, that professional remains subject to their own regulator.”[12] For Family Law Service this means that the solicitor advice is delivered by solicitors of DFA Law LLP (SRA 484839) under that firm’s regulation, while the paralegal and McKenzie Friend work is unregulated.[13][14] For Mediate UK it means that mediation is delivered by mediators individually registered with the Family Mediation Council, which does not accredit organisations, under a Legal Aid Agency contract held in the company’s name.[3][8]
